National senior squash players Charlotte Knaggs and Mandela Patrick stormed into round three of the individual draw at the Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships in Cayman Islands, yesterday.
After a first round bye, Knaggs defeated Barbadian Andrea Goodridge in straight sets 11-6, 11-3, 11-9 to advance to round three of the women’s draw. Patrick also recorded a straight set win, getting past Mark Giles of Barbados 11-6, 11-3, 11-2.
Kale Wilson and 18-time national champion Rhea Khan were made to work hard in their round two matches. After losing the first set 9-11, Wilson won the next three sets 11-6, 11-7, 11-9 against James Bentick of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
Khan was pushed to the end by Barbadian Alex Jordan, with Khan prevailing in five sets 12-10, 11-5, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10. After press time Khan was scheduled to face Daniela Schuman of the OECS, while Knaggs faced Guyanese Victoria Arjoon. Patrick was hoping for victory over Guyanese Richard Chin and Wilson was carded to play Jamaican Bruce Burrowes.
Action in the individual tournament continues today and tomorrow.
