Reid, Stauble top schools duathlon

Hayden Reid of Trinity College and Lilly Stauble of International School of Port-of-Spain won the 16 and over age group titles when the T&T Triathlon Federation (TTTF) hosted its Secondary School Duathlon Championships at the Diego Martin Highway, on March 20.    

In the boys category Reid won in a time of 26 minutes and 22 seconds (26:22), placing second with a time of 27:27 was Logan Raymond of Fatima College and third place was Sebastian Rudden of Northgate College in 28:12.

In the 16 and over girls age group, Stauble copped first place with a total time of 28:42, with Stefanie Gouveia of St Joseph’s Convent Port-of-Spain second in 34:35. Rounding off the top three was Cailin Bellmare of St Joseph’s Covent Port-of-Spain also in 34:35. In all the age groups which included the 14-15 age group, 13 and under and a relay event, competitors had to run, ride, then run again.

This was the second phase of its children series which comprised ten schools. Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Darryl Smith, was present to show his support as he cheered on the participating athletes. The Minister presented trophies to the winners in the 16 and over age groups.

The T&T Triathlon Federation is the National Governing Body (NGB) which governs triathlon. The TTTF aims to promote excellence in the sport, through training camps, workshops, coaching clinics, and other initiatives, whilst creating opportunities for all involved to achieve their personal triathlon challenges.

Minister Smith congratulated all participants and encouraged them to reach their full potential which will unlock the door to personal excellence. The final part of the schools series - Primary and Secondary Schools Duathlon will take place at a date to be announced in the months of June or July.
