
All rounder Navin Stewart warmed-up for the upcoming Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 tournament by hitting 77 for a representative T&T team against India, in the South Florida cricket league on the weekend at Lauderhill Sports Park.
The Tobago-born all rounder who will be playing for the Barbados Tridents in the CPL for the second time, travelled to Florida to play under the leadership of former PowerGen player Timothy Surujbally.
The South Florida League includes players representing nations from across the world and Stewart’s effort came against India.
Batting first, T&T made 211/4 of their 20 overs with Stewart hitting a fearsome 77 of 34 balls with six sixes. He was ably supported by Akeem Dodson who stroked 71. In reply, the Indians were restricted to 123 all out with Surujbally taking 3/19. Stewart also bowled well and took 1/7 of two overs.
This Friday, team T&T will come up against Guyana in the finals of the tournament and Stewart will be making the trip to represent his team. Also accompanying him will be T&T all rounder Rayad Emrit.
The Guyana team is expected to include former West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan. The right hander played two matches for Guyana in the prelims and is expected to fly in for the finals on Friday.
