Led by MVP Kieron Emmanuel, Royhil Seals Water Polo Club of T&T captured gold in the second Barbados Open Water Polo tournament held at the Aquatic Centre in Wildey, Barbados, last weekend.
Emmanuel also finished the tournament as the top scorer, while teammate Nathaniel Porter took the prize for best goalie. The local club, which trains at the Flying Fish Swim Pool in Federation Park, finished at the top of the table at the end of the round robin competition, and beat the Barbados Sharks 11 - 9 in a closely contested final. The team led throughout the entire final, except within the last three minutes when they stood level, 9 - 9.
However the Seals held on, fighting strong, even without any substitutes left, forcing errors on the Bajan side and managed to squeeze in two more before the final whistle.
Barbados Sharks took second place and Asphalt Green of New York finished third.
