Davis, Mohammed go after semis spots

The top women in T&T will be in action today as singles action continues in the blink bmobile national open tennis championship at Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair, from 5 pm. 

Emma Davis, the junior tennis queen who clobbered Aura Whittier on the opening day on Saturday, will come up against Emily Lawrence in a hotly-contestly quarter final affair, while Carlista Mohammed will have a date with Anya King on an adjacent court, seeking a berth in the semis. 

Mohammed returned to action Sunday after a four-year hiatus and looked anything but short of practice, whipping Osenyonye Nwokolo in straight sets 6-0, 6-3. 

She was scheduled to partner with Leah Alcala top face the pair of Marie Honore and Chelsea Mukerji in the Ladies Doubles last night and this evening she will be hoping to take another step towards the title. 

In another game Yin Lee Assang will be up against Solange Skeene, the daughter of former national footballer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the T&T Pro League Dexter Skeene. 

Assang, on Saturday easily disposed of Andrea Douglas and will be hoping to do the same with Skeene while Mukerji will also go after a semis spot when she faces Emma Rose Trestrail. 

Among the Men, Akiel Duke will meet Brandon Gregoire in the round of 16 and Samuel West will clash with Nabeel Mohammed in another match. 

Scott Hackshaw squares off with Jerome Ward; Aaron Chan faces Ivor Grazette; Mc Collin Fontenelle meets Christian Valentine; Nkrumah Patrick comes up against Luke De Caires; Keshan Moonasar faces Richard Chung and Joshua Abraham will complete the round of action against Brandon Tom.
