Inter-Island rivalry returns to Santa Rosa Park on Monday, Independence Day when the bumper Massy Day at The Races takes place at the Santa Rosa Park, in Arima.

The card has seen 131 horses taking entry for the 10-race programme with the feature Grade One- Bernard Dulal-Whiteway Independence Cup attracting a field of nine horses including the last year’s Barbados Massy Derby winner Voldermort which will be ridden by Patrick Husbands.

The Victor Cheeseman trained horse will attempt to land the first prize cheque of $120,000 for owners Bills Incorporated. Last year’s victorious trainer Glenn Mendez has creole Dark Treasure entered and this one could be set to repeat the success of Urban Knight in last year’s edition of the event.

In the co-feature, the Moneygram Gleneagle Stakes over 1,750 metres on the main track, Barbados is again aptly represented with Poetic Licence from the same connection. This filly must have an outstanding chance as our horses are not of the highest calibre this time around. However, she will have most to fear from Cloud Nine which will be ridden by Nobel Abrego. Champion trainer John O’Brien has two entered in the event Tan Tan and Serengeti.

Post time for the first event on Independence Day is 11.45 am.

Here are the declared runners, riders and weights.
