St Anthony’s College and Fyzabad Secondary joined Shiva Boys Hindu College in a three-way tie after round one of the 2016 Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) with contrasting wins yesterday.
St Anthony’s College nickname the “Westmoorings Tigers”, came-from-behind to beat Fatima 2-1 while Fyzabad Secondary blanked ten-man St Benedict’s College 2-0, to join Shiva Boys which whipped Presentation College of San Fernando on Wednesday are all on three points.
At Fatima College Ground, Mucurapo, host Fatima took a first-half lead through the prolific Justin Araujo-Wilson which it held until the interval.
However, within five minutes of the restart, the “Westmoorings Tigers” got back on even terms through returning player, Haile Beckles before another seasoned campaigner Kathon St Hillaire put them ahead for good with what turned out to be the eventual match winner.
Down South at Mahaica Oval, Pt Fortin, St Benedict’s College battled on with ten men from the 41st minute after Mikel Ravello was red card for dangerous until Aleric Williams broke the deadlock in the 70th minute and ten minutes later, Natinni Jones got the second item.
Elsewhere, the three other matches all ended in draws with Queen’s Royal College and St Augustine battling to a 0-0 deadlock at St Clair, while neighbors St Mary’s College also drew blanks with Trinity Moka at Serpentine Road, and over in Tobago, Signal Hill and Pleasantville ended 1-1.
In Wednesday’s other match, two-time defending league champions Naparima College squandered a 2-0 lead in a 2-2 draw with San Juan North. Matches will resume tomorrow from 3.40 pm.
