
Okera Dennie proved to be the best shooter in the Under-19 Division on Thursday in the T&T Secondary Schools Netball Association shooting competition at the Central Regional Indoor Sporting Arena (CRISA) in Chaguanas.
The St Joseph’s Convent shooter netted 42 goals from 98 attempts to cop the individual shooting trophy. She partnered with Alisha McLeod (25/45) and Kamaria Joseph (33/59) to tally 95 off 172 and finished runner’s-up in the team shooting contest behind Tunapuna Government trio of Genesis Clifford, Jyde Montoute and Kadeemah Herbert. Clifford produced 38 in 56, Jyde Montoute 27 of 62 and Herbert 34 from 67) to tally 99 off 185 overall.
Clifford’s contribution earned her second place in the individual competition while Guayaguayare’s Tishari George was third with 35 in 61.
Dennie had more to celebrate on the day as her Port-of-Spain team topped the Interzone competition. to make it three from three for the district. Last Tuesday, Port-of-Spain picked up the U-16 and U-14 Interzonal titles, after defeating Sangre Grande 10-4 and 9-2 in their respective final.
In the U-19 final, Port-of-Spain under the guidance of coach Lystra Solomon-Simmons, met St George East and emerged with a narrow one-goal (7-6) victory.
The winning schools in each age-group in each zone - U-14, U-16 and U-19 will compete for the national Schools’ title against the winners of each division from Tobago on Thursday as well as the champions of the zonal shootout competitions, both schools and individuals will compete for the shooting crowns.
