‘King’ William to rule

Kingofmerrows, up in trip for a ‘new’ stable but way superior on time-handicap ratings; can Jamie Osborne’s charge be risked in a 2-y-o Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs of Newcastle tapeta this afternoon?

This precedes an evening meeting on a similar surface at Wolverhampton, where life will be difficult for two-year-old aficionados like myself.

Yesterday was a dramatic day, we moved ahead in the Racing Post Naps Table; although ‘it’s tough at the top’ the intention is to completely dedicate myself and land this prestigious award for an eighth time!

There is nothing quite like a challenge in life, looking back at so many triumphs/awards is satisfying but as I’ve often mentioned, nothing is easy in this tough sport and yet we’ve proved ‘the harder you work, the luckier you become!’

Experience is THE key factor and it will be intriguing to watch William Carson aboard Kingofmerrows from stall twelve which is no problem at Gosforth Park because there isn’t a draw bias on the wonderful straight mile course.

William Carson is shrewd, has a racing brain, like his famous grandad, Willie, but against a clutch of well-bred thoroughbreds from ‘fashionable’ yards Kingsmerrow is no ‘penalty-kick’ and yet, with plenty in hand, I’m looking forward to another winning nap.

Incidentally why Kingofmerrows was transferred from David Evans’ stables is unknown, does it matter?

‘Ossie’ also journeys twice-raced, ex-Irish-trained, Statesman for his ‘third run’ in a Maiden Stakes over a mile but his form does not bear close inspection and neither, over the same course and distance, does a field of ten for the opening nursery.

Initially is fancied by the Charles Hills’ camp for the seven-runner 3-y-o Maiden Stakes over six furlongs but will be hard-pressed to cope with Sonnet, recently acquired at the Newmarket ‘horses-in-training’ Sales by Evans, from Hills!

Tomorrow it’s ‘Hennessy’ day at Newbury; last year we napped FIFTEEN lengths winner Smad Place for the big race; can lightning strike twice?

Watch this space.
