The stage is now set to take T&T cyclists to the top of the sport locally, regionally and internationally, new T&T Cycling Federation’s public relations offiicer Roxanne Ramnath has said.

The cycling federation under president Robert Farrier has introduced a robust and integrated strategic plan that will enable it to achieve this mission. They have recruited the services of Dr Moreica Ortega, the T&T professional who has worked as a consultant for over ten years, focusing on Corporate Strategy, Organisational Performance Improvement and Evaluation, to guide them with the strategy.

She is the brains behind the National Information and Communications Technology strategy which is now popularly known as SmarTT programme and has been working with the TTCF since October 2016.

In the coming months, the cycling federation will draft up a comprehensive strategy, following consultation and collaboration with all the stakeholders of the sport.

Ramnath believes it will add to an already attractive record for the sport, which shows T&T cycling teams capturing a total of 56 medals at 27 international events.

She said from this amount 25 of the medals have been gold, a feat that significantly surpasses performances over the last decade.

In addition Ramnath also pointed to the growing numbers in the sport, as is evident by the record amounts at registration of events, a figure that shows over 50 percent at competitions between 2014 and 2016.

Under Farrier and company the cycling federation has also gained the support of a number of corpoerate citizens such as National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB), Blue Waters, Caribbean Bottlers, Tourism Development Company (TDC) and Blink Bmobile, among others.

The federation will begin its 2017 season with a 72 kilometre road race today from the Mucurapo Foreshore to the Couva Flyover and back, where the country’s top racers will be on show.

This event will be followed by road races every weekend.
