Kamaria Durant of Simplex repeated her success at the Sunday’s Southern Games, completing the sprint double after storming to victory in the women’s 200 metres event, beating the field with a 24.29-second run. This was at the 53rd edition of the event held at Petrotrin Sports Club at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre.

Durant, who copped the sprint double last year, added the 200m title to her 100m crown, which she had won earlier, clocking 11.90 to finish ahead of her teammates Onika Murray in 12.30 and Shikyla Walcott in 12.40, respectively.

Again Murray trailed the former World Relays bronze medallist to line in 25.19 to win the silver medal and in third was Sade Andrews of UTT Fast Track in 25.58.

Five other athletes also copped double gold in their respective events including Carifta-bound Point Fortin New Jets (PFNJ) pair Kashief King and Natasha Fox, Cougars duo Shaniqua Bascombe and Joanna Rogers and Shakeem McKay of Memphis Pioneers.

King won the Boys Under-20 200m (22.10) and 400m (49.07); Rogers, another runner heading to Carifta, won the girls U-18 version of those two races in 25.28 (200m) and in 1:01.37 (400m), Fox nabbed gold in both the 100m (13.03) and 200m (26.72) in the Girls U-14 bracket, Bascombe was also victorious in the Girls U-16 100m (12.59) and 200m (25.19) events, as well as McKay in the Boys U-16. He won in 11.61 in the 100m and 23.72 in the 200m.

Over on the cycling track, Quincy Alexander dominated the international 500 metres event, with his T&T teammate Keron Bramble taking silver and the bronze went to Mexico’s Roberto Plowells. Two-time T&T Olympian Njisane Phillip was eliminated in a 500m heat, earlier. Alexander also won gold in the sprint, again beating Bramble into second place in the final. Plowells was third again, after topping Great Britain’s Andrew Leverton in the third-place match-up.
