
Britney Cooper put on another fierce batting performance, blazing an unbeaten century to pilot Preysal Phoenix past Players Sports Club by a massive 261 runs in round 10 action of the T&T Women’s Cricket Association’s 50-over League on Sunday.
Phoenix batted first and Cooper raced to 117 not out to lead her team to a huge 324/4 in 37 overs. Key in getting to that grand score were national captain Merissa Aguillera, who hit a half century (76), youngster Reniece Boyce with 48 and Felicia Walters with 35.
All four mentioned above make a vital part of the T&T unit that will take on the best women’s cricket teams that the region has to offer at the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) Senior Women’s Tournament which will held in St Vincent and the Grenadines from April 16- May 1. The tournament matches will comprise both Twenty20 (T20) and 50-over formats.
Shanmatie Nowrang in her 10 overs made some enroads picking up 3/78 while her fellow bowler Patrina Walcott was far more expensive claiming 1/82 in eight overs.
Players Sports Club in reply, did not spend much time at the crease, reaching a mere 63/6 in their allotted 37 overs. Phoenix had five different bowlers getting a wicket each, Sacha Amkersingh (1/3), Shenelle Lord (1/4), Neeta Boodhai (1/9), Felicia Walters (1/9) and Samantha Bissoon (1/13)
The victory keeps the Preysal-based team on top of the points standings with 21 points from 10 matches, having six wins, a loss and three no result matches. Phoenix (+2.45) has a better net run rate (NRR) of compared to Technocrats (+1.38), who also has the same record and points. Technocrats came away easy winners in that round securing full three points without taking the field as its competitors, Cricket Lovers forfeited the match.
In the other match played, Moosai seized a six-wicket win over Hibiscus Ladies.
