
Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Darryl Smith has congratulated all rounder Sunil Narine for his record breaking knock for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.
Narine’s 54 off 17 balls equalled Yusuf Pathan for the fastest half century in the IPL and ensured that KKR defeated Bangalore by six wickets to take second position on the standings. Smith in a release yesterday said the ministry has helped the spinner in his rehabilitation process for his bowling action, which in turn allowed him to return to regional and international cricket. Narine, a left- handed batsman lashed six fours and four sixes in the top score Sunday.
UDeCOTT hands over Brian Lara Stadium
Meanwhile the keys to the Brian Lara Academy was officially handed over to the Ministry of Sports by the Urban Development Corporation of T&T on Friday last, a ceremony that coincided with the final of the T&T Cricket Board T20 Festival between Central Sports and Merryboys at Tarouba. UDeCOTT Chairman Noel Garcia presented the keys to Permanent Secretary Natasha Barrow who later praised contractors for their performance in delivering works on 22 packages over a nine-month period. She also hailed the joint effort by Consultants and members of the Board as a success story.
Garcia was particularly pleased that the people of T&T, the region and the wider diaspora now have access to the new state-of-the art cricket facility . According to the release four separate independent reports comprehensively ensured that the facility met international codes and standards, namely Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Surveys. As such the facility was certified as safe for use.
