Some120 cyclists will participate in the Mike’s Bikes Big Ride to Salybia, which begins at the Keep Moving Family and Fitness Sundays in Diego Martin, at 6.30 am, on Sunday.

This annual fun group road ride is geared towards cyclists that are comfortable riding in a group on the road, and want to challenge themselves with a longer ride of 75 km.

Typically this is the first “big ride” that cyclists enter, but by no means is it only for novices. Many look forward to doing this annual event, again and again.

“It’s all about creating the opportunity for people to challenge themselves and to meet their fitness goals,” said Michael Phillips, managing director of Mike’s Bikes and Phillips Promotions, organiser of the event.

“Keep Moving Family and Fitness Sundays has been going on for seven years, and it has been the starting point for many road cyclists – a safe circuit to ride, build fitness and learn the skills necessary to ride in a group safely,” he explained.  “The Mike’s Bikes Big Ride to Salybia is really an extension of the Out and Back rides at Keep Moving – just longer and with a scenic destination.”

Cyclists can register at Mike’s Bikes on Ariapita Avenue until today. Registration is $300 which includes ride support (rest stop refreshments, vehicle, ambulance, police escort), brunch at Salybia Nature Resort with entrance to poolside and a t-shirt for the first 100 persons to register. All finishers will receive a medal. Supporters are invited, and can register for brunch and poolside also. Adults 12 and over are $200, with children Under-12 paying half price.

Lifestyle Motors has joined as a sponsor and will showcase an exciting range of vehicles.

Gatorade, Blue Waters and Yoplait are also sponsors and will provide the refreshments to power the cyclists. The emphasis is on fun, but after the rest stop at Valencia River, the more experienced cyclists will break away from the main peloton and aim for top honours in four categories—first man to finish, first woman to finish, oldest to finish and youngest to finish.

They will receive hampers courtesy Gatorade and Yoplait. Mike’s Bikes will also be giving out specialised products by random draw, but the competitor must be able to answer a question to claim the prize.

After a delicious brunch, cyclists and their families can relax in the pool enjoying the scenic view and sea breeze of Salybia Nature Resort.
