Sakhee’s Jem has done enough (in eight races) to justify a serious each-way punt in the Maiden Auction Stakes over six furlongs of Chelmsford polytrack today; experience, best time-handicap mark and booking of David Probert, a real favourite based on consistency since graduating from a solid apprenticeship period.
“Probe” was superb when landing a double on Southwell fibresand, Tuesday, and climbs aboard this Gay Kelleway-trained Sakhee’s Secret filly for the first time, her sixth different jockey.
These particular juvenile races are always worth scrutinising because, as the race title suggests, they involve cheap(ish!) yearlings and there are no worries about running into an Arab-owned, super-bred; Sakhee’s Jem, sharpened up with a recent effort in a Newmarket nursery, certainly looks the ideal sort.
Obviously twice-raced Annie Salts, a beaten-favourite last month, is going the right way and Lavinia Rose will undoubtedly be on the premises but others will be hard-pressed to cope; providing all eight decs go to post (make sure they do!) one of three placings is nigh on guaranteed.
Snow Prince won’t be a surprise if he causes one in the six-runner aged Maiden stakes over thirteen furlongs but he would have been last time out!
Steve Colling’s charge, well-beaten in two bumpers earlier this year, reappeared at Pontefract seventeen days ago and achieved a tidy TH mark when finishinbg fourth to Blue Sea of Ibrox, a 20/1 winner; Snow Prince was 80/1!
The form bears close inspection in a weak race and this Royal Applause gelding has an excellent opportunity under Tony Hamilton, regular jock for Richard Fahey.
Don’t oppose and earlier Wilson’s Ruby should go close in the nine-runner nursery handicap over six furlongs from stall number one; TH danger, Kenstone, is drawn nine.
Make it an each-way patent tonight.
