A full-strength Detour Shak Attack rebounded from their defeat to Police last week to produced a convincing 83-62 victory over Siparia Ball Players as action resumed on Sunday in the National Basketball Championship at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo.
Only last week Shak Attack coach Gordon Felix lamented his team’s 68-82 loss to the Lawmen, having fielded a weakened team for the encounter and promised to have all his key players back for Sunday’s match against the Ball Players. Well he did and his team produced magic, led by a game high 31 points by Ifill Andrews to confine the Siparia men to their second defeat of the championship. Apart from Ifill they also got nine points from Ancil Ollivierre and eight from Jermon Ashby.
The southerners were led by 13 points from Shem Grant and 10 from Dennison John. Roger Paul and Jazel Cedeno each also scored eight points in their losing effort.
In another match Police, who are now the overwhelming favourites to take the crown, recorded their second victory of the tournament with a commanding 77-53 win over BTU Ballers in the lone encounter at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville.
Ronnel Winter led for his team with 19 points on the night and Dayner Daniel and Wesley Vincent scored 16 and 13 points respectively. Keith Flemming led the scoring for the Ballers with 12 points, while Walter Peters contributed and Clint Phillip added ten points.
Action in the championship continued last night as Upstate were expected challenge Quarters at 7 pm in the opening game of a double header at the Pleasantville venue. In the other match Siparia Ball Players were scheduled to face Petro Jazz from 8.30 pm.
And at the Eastern Regional Indoor Arena in Tacarigua, the BTU Ballers were up against Mnistry of Sports Schoolaz from 6.30 pm in the opening match, while Police and the Valencia Heat were were expected to tangle in the other game at 8:00pm.
